My other option is to have the yard sale on my back patio and put the dogs on the other side of the yard where they always want to be anyway. They will want to be back on their normal side of the yard as soon as I put them on the other side, though, because they don't have anything else to do.
It would be easier to have a yard sale on the back patio, because I could actually set it up now while it's still raining. The question is, does it deter people from stopping if they can't just do a drive by screening of the sale. I know it deters me only if I'm just cruising yard sales and not looking for anything in particular. But if I'm looking for something specific, I get out of my car.
At least I have good Karma coming my way already. Yesterday after writers' group, I commented to a writer friend on the weather being good enough on Friday so I could finally have a garage sale. She asked me what I was getting rid of and I told her about the big table/shelf unit I've been most concerned about getting rid of. She said "that's exactly what I've been looking for." She followed me home, took some measurements and called a couple hours later and said it was a go. How's that for pre-sale Karma?
I was concerned about getting rid of that piece because I love it. When we moved into our house the outside wall of our kitchen had cabinets and no counter. Go figure. So we bought a free-standing counter from Ikea, the piece I just sold. I really love the piece because it's sturdy, has a wood block top and is good looking. After we remodeled our kitchen I put it in Pooh Corner and imagined I'd use it as my craft table. It became a horizontal collection station.
So when I moved Pooh Corner around so I could look at the trees, I felt grown up enough to realize I was never going to use it as I felt it should be used and someone should get some use out of it. I felt it was too good just to take to Goodwill, and it became my main reason to have a garage sale. I've been worried it wouldn't sell ever since.
I have to admit, once my writer friend told me she'd buy it, I had to take a look at what I had left and decide if it was worth having a garage sale. But I still have some big ticket items. So I will proceed with my garage sale plans. Mama wants a new patio set.
So I have a good start with the counter being sold. Today I will start the set up process and look around for anything else I could sell. I should get the children out of bed too.... hmmm.... no I think it's against the law to sell the children.
