After trick-or-treating I asked my daughter if she was at least able to have a good time around the drama. She said she decided to just put the drama aside, not dwell on it and have a good time. And she did.
So the question remains: Why am I the one worrying? I should be taking cues from my daughter and letting things go and just be determined to have a good time.
Looking back over my evening, I did have a good time. We went as a family to the Halloween party, ate some really good food and visited for awhile. Then we came home and my oldest daughter got to do what she's always wanted to do, pass out candy dressed as a pirate with our bird on her shoulder. And she did.
If my kids can be determined to have a good time, who am I to complain?
