I'm talking about what we found under the shower stall. We've known for a couple months we needed to replace it. When it cracked right up the corner we knew we couldn't avoid it any longer.
My husband tore out the shower last night. Thinking we'd find "moisture" where it was cracking, we found much worse. The floor around the drain was rotting and a lot of the lower wall was rotten. It didn't even have anything to do with the crack in the shower. Something had been leaking for years... the last twelve years to be exact.
We, of course, disagree on how long it's been leaking and where it was leaking and what could have caused the leaking. We also disagree on how the shower should go back in. I would really like to explore tiling the area and he would like another insert.
There are other disagreements of course. He's worried about the linoleum, I see the opportunity to change the color of the bathroom. But one thing we both agree on, we can't do anything until the rot is repaired.
Fortunately for us and unfortunately for him, our neighbor, who is in construction, has been laid off again. We kept him busy last summer remodeling our patio, looks like he'll be busy for awhile at our house again this summer.
