So I'll start with an update about my bird: she has officially quit brooding her eggs. She became obsessed with chewing the inside of the cubby she was brooding in. My husband was trying to talk her out of chewing, when she shoved one of her eggs towards the edge. Perhaps a bit of a trade: "Here, I'll give you an egg if you let me keep chewing." She's also been wanting to be with the family the last few days, so I took the initiative, shut her in her cage, covered her up and took the eggs. She went to bed, probably relieved not to be sleeping in cramped quarters anymore and this morning, she went about resuming her chewing. On advice of the vet, we covered the cubby, so she won't have a nice cozy place she'd be tempted to lay eggs in again. So much drama and it's over in minutes! Sounds like two teenagers I live with.
Now on to my topic: remodeling and holidays do not mix. My daughter and I went to the fabric store yesterday around 11:00am. We picked out fabric for the curtains and went and grabbed a number to have our fabric cut. We were number 95... they were on number 53. After 20 minutes, they were up to 57. I'm not complaining about the employees, they were out in full force. But after noticing the other shoppers' baskets, most of them had a dozen bolts of fabric in their carts. Damn crafty people, getting in the way of my remodel!
So we abandoned ship and went and bought shelving at Fred Meyer. The lines were better because their big sale ended at 11:00am. Then later, I took the shelving back, because we decided we needed the bigger size of shelving and I was standing in the return line with 20 people. What could they possibly be taking back? It wasn't even after Christmas! More holiday people interfering with my remodel!
Remodeling during the holiday shopping rush is really kinda of a catch 22. Most people were hitting the "black Friday" sales and thinking of Christmas when I was just trying to gather the things I needed for my remodel. People are out because the sales are really good right now and the fabric store has the best coupons this time of year and I was glad to get in on the good deals, but at the same time, it was slowing my progress. Don't people know I am living in chaos because I chose to remodel in the middle of a holiday week?
I did go back to the fabric store this morning; I was there by 8:00am. They opened at 7:00am. There was a line, so I took a number then went and got my fabric, curtain clips and dowel, then I went and stood in line. I was 17, they were on 13; a much shorter wait. Plus, yesterday after we left the fabric store we went to my mom's and she gave me a 20% off my whole order coupon. Patience, or rather lack of patience, turned out to be a virtue in this situation.
But still, remodeling and holidays don't mix. So folks, don't try this at home, I am not a trained professional!
