I guess having school start is a clean slate for me and I'd like to wind everything up (down?) so I can settle into a routine without stuff hanging over my head. It's like when I clean my desk and still leave a pile to take care of later; it nags at me and I know it has to be done, but it sits there and doesn't get taken care of.
I'm excited about school starting because I will no longer be responsible for the productivity of my daughters' days, but getting to the starting block is a lot of work.
There is good fortune in the fact my daughters aren't growing much or at all any more, so they don't need much in the way of clothing to start school. When they were in elementary school, they would need a new wardrobe every school year and because they grew so fast I never felt safe shopping for them until right before school started. But I do need to have them try on the clothes they currently have to see if we need to get a few things. They hate trying on their clothes and I hate making them do it.
The kids both have orientation days to get class schedules, ASB cards and advanced purchase of yearbooks and required gym clothes. So I must be at these events to write the checks. At least there are no new schools this year for anyone to acclimate to, so we don't need to do five laps around a building learning class schedules.
I also foolishly said we should go to Wild Waves again on Wednesday and they should bring a friend. Wednesday is my youngest daughter's orientation day, so there is extra coordinating to be done with their friends around something I have no idea how long it will take. I've decided to go to Wild Waves with the kids instead of dropping them off. I'll just plant myself near a pool I can take a dip in every once in awhile to stay cool while they go play. I'll be there with money for snacks and anything else they may need. I'm looking forward to this because I'm just going to sit and read a book all day.
I also need to get the bathroom remodel finalized and the bathroom shower usable again. The shower is in, the wallboard is up and the first layer of tape and mud is on the wallboard. We ordered the door and it should be in this week (we can only hope it won't take 8 weeks like the shower did). I will have to paint before we can use the shower, but the walls have to be ready (mud dried and sanded a few times). I really would like it usable before school starts, but I suppose it's not a big deal since the girls don't have to shower at the same time on school days (until next year; yikes!). Again, I'd just like to get it off my plate of responsibilities.
I guess I better get started. I also have phone calls to make and appointments to schedule. It's a race to the finish and I'm the only one competing.
