If I did it every week like I"m supposed to, it would be easy; although I think in general animals get upset when we clean their cages. I mean, what else do they have to do but mess it up and get it all smelling like themselves in exactly the right filthy conditions. Then we step in and clean it and they have to start all over.
I don't really know why I put it off, even when it's really messy, it's not that big of a deal. Plus, she's so enthusiastic about activity near her cage, she really gets into it. She is out every day, but we usually take her away from her cage when we are with her. She eats breakfast with me and my oldest usually scoops her up when she gets home and takes her into the family room or computer room for awhile.
Today I took the time to let her play under the tap in the sink. She takes baths in a bowl, but really likes the faucet. She doesn't like coming in the shower with me, because she doesn't seem to like the water very warm. But she loves the faucet.
I guess I haven't taken the time to let her play in the faucet for awhile because she really got into it. I mean in a literal sense. I put it on lukewarm and she stuck her head right under it and let it rush over her back. She even poked her head up into it and plugged it for a second. Then she'd pull back and sneeze. She's never gotten that close to the actual tap before today.
I suppose it's like only having a bath every day; you just have the need every once in awhile to let the water run over you and wash it all away. I would've taken video of it, but she sits on my hands while she's playing and everyone is at work or school, so I couldn't exactly record it. Maybe over the weekend, we'll do it again and record it.
Watching her bathe today brought me a lot of joy. I woke up kinda groggy and ready to go back to bed; I didn't even take a shower. After I dropped off my youngest at the bus I came home and sorted laundry. Then I looked at her cage and was going to do it later after I read my emails and blogged. I realized that's how it works every day and I hadn't cleaned her cage yet. So I sucked it up and did it first and she honored me with a bit of joy.
Sometimes changing how we do things or don't do things brings surprising results.
