As I was filing, I was thinking about how much there was. I was running into freshly copied music that I'm sure kept getting copied because no one could find the music that had already been copied. They should have enough copies of the pep band songs to last them the next decade.
Now I've gotten to the bottom of the pile and it's music that has never been filed or played. Who knows how long it's been sitting at the bottom of the pile. The current director would have no way of knowing it was there unless he dug through it, but he had concert music to dig through.
Unlike the pep band music, filing the pile of concert music only took me a couple weeks. Maybe the pep band will be enlightened to a whole new set of music with this unearthing.
I'm of the philosophy that I'd rather have the teacher teaching my child than filing. Plus, it's very satisfying going somewhere and doing something that actually gets completed. It doesn't happen at home very often and when it does it doesn't always stay that way.
I guess my message is that big kids' teachers need help too. I'm sure if I were to ask around to the other teachers, they could use the help. I've chosen the band director. Maybe when my oldest has graduated I'll pinpoint one of my youngest daughter's teachers. Although I've found that teachers at the high school level are so unaccustomed to outside help they don't even know what to do with it.
Time will tell. For now, I have time and will help for satisfaction of a job well done. At least no one has offered to pay me yet.
