So yesterday my husband stayed home from work. He didn't stay home to help me finish decorating, but rather to avoid the yearly "Engineer and big bosses pat themselves on the back" company meeting. But he did have to help me finish decorating.
We had some errands to run late morning and he wanted to deposit his birthday check from his parents. He thought it was still in my purse. I told him I took it out on Sunday. I knew I put it on the side table that now had the Nativity scene on it; I figured it got swooped up into the pile of mail I had gathered while picking up.
I went through the mail and couldn't find it. My husband asked me if it was in my purse. I told him I took it out after the funeral we attended with his parents and it was with the program and I had put it on the side table.
We searched the house for random papers and I went through the pile on my desk one piece at a time. My husband asked me if I was sure it wasn't in my purse. So I explained it to him more slowly. That's when I put my Christmas sleuth hat on.
I told him (very slowly) I put it on the side table. But I must've put it on the side table before the kids put the Nativity scene up. I determined they may have picked it up when they cleared the side table. If they picked it up they probably put it in a bin with the other items that were on the side table. If they put it in a bin, they put it in the empty Nativity scene bin which was now in the attic.
My husband and I headed up to the attic (really just a crawl space in the ceiling), found the bin and there was the card with his birthday check inside.
HAH! Christmas sleuth. You just have to be able to out think the kids when you have a family.
