The house is fairly clean, I'm not inviting adults this year because my pleas to attend seem like desperate attempts to make myself feel like I have friends (which I do, but none want to be out on New Year's Eve, nor do they want to stand around the campfire in freezing weather), and I don't have to be "on" until it's time to grill the burgers.
It's a nice feeling, because I'm often frantic, wondering if I've been successful at enticing any adults out. But after last year, when only one set of my next door neighbors came over and left by nine or ten, I had a great time with all the teens who stayed the night.
I can feed them, then relax until midnight, when inevitable hilarity ensues. I'm also looking forward to tonight because it will be the first time we've used our campfire pit since I remodeled it and it is going to be a clear night.
I'm not even particularly worried about the big TV/internet change over, because it's like a train, it's a comin'. I'm taking the leap. Besides, I've already changed my email addresses.
It's not been without its problems, though. I had a mini-meltdown last night when I was trying to figure out the email. My youngest told me not to figure stuff out when I'm angry. She was right.
I calmed down and took it one step at a time. The biggest issue was that because I switched to a Google email and I have a Google phone, Google thought it would be such a good idea to add my email contacts to my phone contacts, thus creating a huge mess.
When I deleted all the extraneous contacts off my phone, you guessed it, it deleted them off my email contacts. Fortunately, they have a "revert back to what it looked like yesterday" button within the email. But in doing that, it put them all back on my phone.
So I Googled (ironic, isn't it) how to separate the two. I think I've got it down now. Maybe. I think.
Now I wait for the physical, hard wired changes to take place. The only thing that worries me is that the guy said I needed to be present when they hook up the TV, but not the internet. It seems to me it should be the other way around. Don't leave me before you know if my internet it working. And the WiFi. I will be present to win.
Otherwise, I'm just coasting into the New Year.
