Oh, I had goals. It was going to be done by the time my husband got home. I had my neighbor's yard waste bin available, as well as my own, and I wasn't afraid to use them. All I'm doing is pulling up the sod and shaking as much dirt out as each clump will release. I'm not digging deep or anything. I figured it would go quickly, because it's a dry area that doesn't really have any grass in it.
After two hours I only had one end finished; maybe 1/4 of the way done. I made a deal with myself that I had to get the sod up around the first little tree I planted last spring, then I could break for lunch.
Having accomplished that goal, I decided to make dinner after I ate lunch and get it in the oven on delay cook so I could get right back out there to finish pulling up sod. When I opened the fridge, I spied a half flat of blueberries that I got overly excited about when I was at the produce stand. I was excited about them because it was probably going to be the last of them and I paid way too much for them. But no one was eating them. I decided I'd better do something with them before they went bad. So after lunch, I made a gargantuan any-fruit coffee cake; it was eight cups of blueberries.
After I got it in the oven, I made a Mexican Corn Tortilla Casserole, but just when I was ready to put it together I realized I didn't have any salsa, because someone (not me; I won't mention names) didn't write it on the list. Arrgh! I made it anyway, because it was almost finished. Unfortunately, it was probably the most boring casserole ever. I tried to spice it up with some sriracha and green chilies, but it didn't make any difference. I added hot sauce when I ate it to give it a little zing, which means no one will probably eat any of the leftovers. I'll serve it for dinner tomorrow, which will solve that problem.
All that cooking took two hours out of my life, and by the time I was done I was exhausted. It was just one of those days when things didn't turn out like I expected. Oh well, another gardening day will come around again. At least there's cake.
Oh, and this - tune in tomorrow for the whole story.
