Last year I kind of messed up our anniversary. My intention had been to go to Southcenter Mall and check out the new ethnic food court and see a movie. Although we did see a movie there, our timing was all off to eat at the food court, then we couldn't decide where to eat and then I was searching for a lamp for my bedroom that I could read by that wouldn't keep my husband awake. We ended up running around for hours searching for the stupid lamp and I felt I ruined our anniversary over it.
My husband is an easy going guy and didn't complain, but I've felt bad for a year. So this year I was determined to make up for it. I made reservations for the iPic theater in Redmond Town Center; it's one of those theaters where you have cushy reclining seats and someone serves you. I wanted it to be a surprise for my husband.
After I made the reservation, I looked at the reviews online and they were horrible. The reviews said the service was bad and the food was bad. I was really determined not to ruin our anniversary like I did last year, so I ended up telling him a couple days ago what I had planned so we could decide ahead of time where to eat dinner.
We decided to just go to iPic and just see the movie but to find another place for dinner. We went and checked in at iPic a couple hours before the movie and they were really nice. They sent us into one of the theaters to go check out the seats and make sure we liked our location for later. Then we went and found a restaurant to eat at.
In the reviews someone had mentioned Matt's Seafood. We found that place and enjoyed a great dinner before the movie. I had a crispy calamari salad with a wasabi dressing. It was very yummy. My husband had a crab and shrimp Louie; always one of his favorites.
We tried really hard not to talk about the kids or household duties. We did pretty good, especially since we had the almost completed bathroom to rejoice over.
Then we went on to the theater. It was a lot of fun. I mean, really, how great is it to go to a full-size theater, get served free popcorn and beverage, and watch a movie kicked back in a reclining chair? We also ordered a dessert, brownie cake ice cream sandwich.
I'm not sure what the bad reviews were about. My guess is they were comparing it all to the previous ownership and were not happy about the changes. I thought the service was great and the dessert was good. We saw someone get served dinner next to us and it looked good too. Next time we'll do that and get the whole experience.
The only problem I can see with it is no one under 21 is allowed, I think because they serve alcohol. So we can't bring the kids... hmm, maybe that's not such a bad thing after all?
