"We are calling regarding a local non-profit organization you support. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but no one is available to speak to you."
I hung up at that point because it had scam written all over it. I told my kids about it and we started laughing at the asinine reasoning of a call like that. I suppose it would have told me I had to call a different number in order to speak to someone.
I picture some person sleeping in on Sunday morning hoping no one falls for the scam because they don't want to have to answer their 800 number.
But what also crossed my mind was that would be a horrible phone call for a lonely person to get. What if someone was sitting there just wishing anyone would call them and then they get a call telling them they don't have anyone to speak to them? How much lonelier would they feel?
It kept me laughing for quite awhile yesterday morning. Does that really work for them? Do they know what they are doing to the psyches of America telling us we are not worth putting a person on the the end of the line?
Good thing I wasn't lonely. I probably would have waited and called the other number.
